Franklin Budget Update March 18, 2026
FRANKLIN BUDGET: The Franklin Budget Committee just finished up an intense week of creating a thoughtful budget proposal for next school year.
Franklin’s funding comes from several sources:
Per-Pupil state funding (about $10K per student), Equity funding, High Poverty LAP (state), Title I Instruction, Title I Professional Development, and City Levy. For more information on how school funding is allocated, please visit the Washington State OSPI website
Due to many complicated and long-term funding problems, Seattle School district is facing an $80 to $100 million deficit for next year. nearly every school in the district received a budget with less funding and some cuts to staffing and programs. There are cuts to some programs and grants, and some class sizes are increasing.
At Franklin, the biggest cuts were to our Career and Technical Education (CTE) funding, as well as the Multilingual program (due to lower projected enrollment).
Principal Weiss applied for and received some mitigation from our initial allocations, but we will still be losing the following:
- 1 assistant principal
- Media Arts & Medical Careers CTE pathways
- 2 Multilingual teaching positions
- .8 General Teaching position
